New Slim the Mobster & Dr Dre "Back against the wall" + mixtape

While in London Town to kick off his club tour with the Grime Godfather Wiley, SoulCulture TV caught up with DJ Whoo Kid at the Dope Chef showroom and he revealed that he would be premiering a brand new Dr Dre track on Saturday (November 5th) called "Back Against The Wall" which will be taken from a forthcoming mixtape by the latest aftermath signing Slim The Mobster. Describing the record as "Some hardcore shit, NWA type feel, like he's back, he's calling out haters...fuck y'all, no more Mr nice guy type ish" it premiere on the Whoolywood Shuffle co hosted by MTV's Sway.

The G-Unit repping DJ and radio personality also revealed details on a forthcoming mixtape he will be creating with Dr Dre later this year which will possibly feature Snoop Dogg and some more of Dre's old school collaborators.

  4. LMAO, the release date for detox have been set to 2018 in wikipedia

  5. Wow if y'all don't like back against the wall then your fucked as fans and your ear is garbage

  6. I mean Dre's verse was obviously written by and in the style of Slim but fuck it, I'll happily take it because it's halfway decent for once and more than listenable. Dre isn't faulting at all and for a joint that he didn't produce it shows he's on top of his game; the best and newest of the best will be saved for Detox obviously, this is just a mixtape after all.

Some people are going to put anything he does down no matter what but their bad attitude just shows they can't take a second to be fans more than they want to be constant whiners. No matter how good Detox ends up being, they'll be the same people finding any excuse to put it down because they don't want to go back on all their complaining and negativity they spread demanding Dre puts it out when they want it, even if nobody actually claimed it was going to drop when they expected it.

  7. Slim said it on twitter. This was a detox track and Jake One double sold it so it couldn't be used.

  8. ^^ Halfway Decent for once and more than listenable.....what a fucking review....all i know is DETOX is going to dissapoint. I finally realized that today....Back against the wall was supposed to be THE SHIT...Honestly, ask yourself this would you have replaced any of 2001 tracks with this song? Uhhhhh......NO.

I love the old dre, but the new Dre is dead. I know its sad to say but tell me the last thing you loved that he released......NOTHING.

IT WAS GOOD WHILE IT LASTED.........

Hopefully we get the Dre mixtape before christmas..

  12. On 2001, I would substitute Light Speed with this Back Against The Wall

  13. why do rap songs all sound tinny and lacking those kick drums and bass kick that dre songs epitomised, i know this probs wasnt produced by dre but even the most recent dre produced songs i know like that joint by dawuan parker, just dont have that bass like before. Most rap songs nowdays dont even emphasise that deep bass kick drum or chords/strings, that alex the kid style just sounds like the song is muted or mono, the sped up drums of lil wayne/rick ross songs is bullshit or songs end up just remixes of euro dance trash. damn shame, bring back the sound of bitch please, still dre, hello, in da club!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who the fuck ever said Back Against the Wall was supposed to be "the shit"? Nobody. It's not a Dre-produced joint. It's not even a Khalil joint. It's a mixtape joint produced by some other guy/guys that just happened to feature Dre. So by this logic you determined beyond all doubt Detox is going to suck? Good lord, I can't even begin to deconstruct the stupidity of that thinking.

Anything Dre has a hand in producing, mixing, or even being featured is a "potential" Detox joint. It doesn't mean it's going to actually make the cut; if Dre had regular standards like anyone else, then we would've had Detox back in '05 at least. Otherwise how do you explain why he's taken years and years to get it right? With all the contributions and help he could have put out 10 dope ass albums by now. Everyone on the inside says the same thing: he's not putting out shit until it's PERFECT. Not a few songs but the entire album has to be flawless. The bar is above the last album which some of you whiners put on a pedestal. You've not heard any Dre-certified Detox material. I doubt anyone here has. So how can you declare it has to suck? People said the same shit before he put 2001, that Dre fell off, Dre can't keep up, Dre isn't relevant, all that shit. I remember.

If you want to say the joint sucks, that's cool, I'll probably disagree since it's not bad, but it's a long fucking river to row to say it's evidence Detox will be shit. If you believed that, why are you here? Sounds like people really want Detox but try to put it down for everyone else only because they're mad at Dre for not giving to them by a certain deadline they made up themselves.

  15. plugin thanks for your lengthy post - the first line is what i and im sure many sensible folks were thinkin. Thanks o expanding on it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Plugin I agree with you 100% except for the fact we have heard Dre-certified Detox Material... "I Need A Doctor," granted he didn't produce the beat... he mixed it and felt strongly enough to crash a Ferrari (I understand...it's pennies but rich people are still stingy). And i even understand that INAD was a catalyst to get Dre to get in work mode. However, it does not change the fact that he felt that the INAD was a great enough 1st/2nd impression for the most elusive album in hip/hop which happened to trump any other potential beats he could have substituted in its place. I have all they faith and optimistic hopes in the world that Detox will be a classic, and so should everybody else but you can't deny facts.

  18. This track over Light Speed? Bro just go throw yourself under a bus asap.

  19. INAD isn't on Detox nor did I ever assume it was an official single for it. That joint leaked and they put it out. Was there any official confirmation or word from Dre it was definitely the first Detox single for the album? All this time I just assumed it was like Kush, a leaked single that got a good response, got finished, and put out for promotion and radio play. Under Pressure was sort of the same thing except the response was negative so they scrapped it; had it been hot Dre would have finished it and put it out like Kush. When I say "Dre-certified Detox material" I mean it literally as in an official single or song that ushers in the Detox album. We're not there yet so my point was about people jumping the gun, taking one entirely separate thing like this Slim mixtape song (which is a bonus track), and using it to declare Detox won't be good even if it has nothing to do with the actual material on the album. It may sounds like semantics but there is a big line there. Knowing Dre and his standards, I'm going to err on the side that Dre isn't that stupid and that official first single is going to be above the bar. Taking this Slim joint and basing the opinion that actual Detox material won't be good no matter what, as we know, not only makes zero sense but is dumb in a way I can't even explain it.

INAD is what it is. I hated it when I heard it, still do, and it's not even really a Dre song. It's not a Detox song, people just put two and two together to make that assumption it was, but technically I never assumed that since it leaked early and Dre isn't going to fuck with that. My opinion is you can only have an opinion on Detox when you hear something that we know is on Detox. Nothing out so far can speak to that. You can criticize Dre and his direction he may be leaning but that's a whole other conversation. INAD was probably born out of the last version of Detox (since scrapped), influenced by what Em was doing, and thankfully Dre didn't run with that.

That whole song is corny as hell and was likely just a showboating record to spread the word on radio and elsewhere (for the mainstream) to get Dre's name out there and warm up for Detox. INAD was officially released on February 1 during a time the official word hinted Detox was dropping that month, but by Feb 1, there was no sign that was happening anyway. If it was for Detox the timeline doesn't add up or make sense which is why I figured that was just a song put out and done for the reason I said.

  20. yo, I'm more a fan of rock/metal/electronic etc. music but always been a fan of Dre's work. Can somebody explain me the reason behind why mixtapes have these random guys hosting the mixtapes. I find it hard to believe that somebody likes the DJ version with somebody yelling over the songs. Is it only to create more buzz if you have a famous DJ or is there other reasons?? I don't understand why Slim the Mobster needs this. I understand if its a unknown rapper and he gets a famous DJ to hype it but otherwise i don't understand it. I think it ruins the mixtapes. I think the mixtapes should be released without DJs and always in 320 Kbps quality which is very rare. It would give more value to the people. Btw good work with the blog Uzee!

  21. Guys you have to realise that times have changed, the music is not the same - you cant expect Dre to sing the same stuff he was sining in 2001.
I like this song; but I have agree - most this news songs dont have that deep hard kick.
Dre seems to be experimenting with new ways of rapping - he is not consistent in his style - it took me some time to recognise him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Did not like this track. Did not like Dre's lyrics for that matter A man approaching 50 rapping like he is still in his 20's make s no sense it is almost comical. Dre can do way better I hope he can change his ways before it's too late. You can't even compare this track to I Need a Doctor or Die Hard( Way better subject matter and material) Disappointed as a fan

    ReplyDelete
  23. Plugin agree with you we have not even heard an official track for detox Die Hard was supposed to be but that simply disappeared which was my favorite track so far out of all the other unfinished leaks and releases I wonder why Dre has not produced any tracks for Slim or Game there's gotta be a reason hopefully he's saving everything he has produced for Detox good post though you seem to know your shit

  24. If you did not like the lyrics then maybe you shud go listen to lil wayne, lil john, or whatever this lil kidz make this days.

Clearly you cant relate this lyrics to him; I quote what he says (randomly)
"i can kick my feet up and relax if i wanted to, but i am back in the lab; making my next murder move" .......
"niggas hate when you elavate and making moves"
I dont wanna spoil the lyrics cos clearly you havent listen properly
    your ignorance is irritating.
    Dont be like other hypocrytes

  25. Nico dre is not experimenting, he just raps the same way the person that writes his rhymes does.. I assume it goes like this: the artist, in this case slim, writes dre's rhyme and raps it out the way he wants dre to sound. Dre then listens to this recording and mimics the flow while rapping the lyrics written for him. Although if that artist has worked with dre at some point, most likely dre was the one that coached that artist into having that flow and style in the first place.. so i suppose everyone plays their part to some degree.
I really hope dre is more involved in the making of detox than i suspect he is... it looks like he is not even involved in making the beats. At least in 2001 he was there in the studio composing the beats with mel man and his team. Everything that has come from dre recently has been produced by someone else. This is where my fear and frustration comes in when it comes to detox. What the fuck has dre recently done for detox besides tweak other people's work?

    ReplyDelete
  26. we dont really know what dre has done besides 'tweaking' lol. We ONLY see/hear what others release/leak, not everything.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's just absurd, Dre is always known to be working in the studio, directing the artist, surgically managing everything until it mirrors exactly what's in his head. That's what a producer is supposed to be doing + having the final say and authority on everything about the album. He may not be sitting there making beats from scratch but he never really did that in the first place - he's said that himself.

Making 2001, he and Mel-Man were co-producing everything together but things are different. I'm sure Elizondo was making big contributions for a while but he wasn't getting a co-producer credit until around 2004-2005. If Dre is in the studio all the time, working with the artists, reworking all the material, and directing whoever is in the booth, and doing all that to meet his standards and expectations, then how can anyone think this isn't his album

Don't be fooled by the Doggisode episodes with all those cats working on Detox and Dre not being around for it. Dre finally came to his senses, dropped all the yes men and bullshit around him that almost had him put out a bullshit Detox record, reached out and made amends to DOC, reached out to Snoop, and designated those two to take charge to get this done right. It doesn't mean Dre isn't doing shit, for all we know Dre was in a different studio in Burbank, North Hollywood, wherever, and working elsewhere doing different shit. Snoop and DOC are Dre's trusted lieutenants/collaborators (especially DOC) for this project, they work for him, they know the bar they have to raise, and all that's a GOOD thing. You can see and hear Snoop talking about making something good enough to submit to Dre and telling those guys it has to be next level flawless or else Dre won't take it. So what's all this talk about Dre not being involved? Nothing, and I mean NOTHING on Detox is going to exist on it unless it was combed over with a microscope and approved by Dre.

As far as I've heard over the years, Dre has subcontracted the actual beatmaking to guys like Khalil (who is probably Dre's favorite producer) and obviously a lot of others. Doesn't matter who as long as the material is up to the new bar he set and it fits the musical concept Dre wants. Good shit is good shit and if Dre likes it, he'll take it, rework it, mix it, test out a bunch of people to spit on it for reference, and slowly but surely hone in until it's up to par. He may trash it, he may keep it, who knows? That seems to be how Detox is getting done. Either way, even if it's not solely and only produced by Dre, it's Dre's shit all the way through. Even for Kush, Khalil gave the beat to Dre and admitted both of their mixes were completely different while Dre's blew his own shit away. It may be a beat and song Khalil drew up but the final product is going to be Dre's so don't get hung-up on labels and vague semantics to mislead yourself with this idea that if a joint isn't 100% done by Dre that it's not his at all. Sorry for the long ass post again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's old news but I just realized it. War Music backed up for another 24 hours because, wait for it, Dre needs another day to put some last touches on Back Against the Wall. I gotta laugh at that and wonder if Dre just does that kind of shit because it's what he's known for best.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If he is gonna tweak anything - he betta remove WhooKid's shot guns - that ish is fkdup; messing up with the music.
Apart from that - the track is ayt.
Dre actually flows nicely on this track.
I realy like the lyrics - dont care what some of the hypocrytes say in here.

  30. thats true uzee, we dont know how much imput dre has on the album. I agree nico, i actually like the song, i'm just expressing my fear that when the album is done and released that the tracks on it have little or no creative imput from dre. I never said anything about the quality of the leaks and released tracks for detox. Guess we will have to wait until the album is released.. which I know will be fire either way.

I cant wait for Slim's Mixtape tomorrow - although I have heard some few songs already.

  33. I've heard just about every single song on the mixtape already so its release is just an afterthought. I just want to check to see if it Back Against the Wall has any differences with what played on Shade 45.

It's gonna have DJ tags like anything but I think Slim said he'd put out War Music without it eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just compared this to T.I. - Salute, and it's the same damn beat. I understand that Dre didn't produce it, but why would Slim and Dre they use a beat that another very famous artist already made a decent song out of?

Fuckin lazy to me, mixtape or not! It's just tacky.

    ReplyDelete
  35. dre didnt produce the track - plus its ok for producers/djs to use existing beats/samples for mixtapes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. who are you Uzee to judge if it's ok for a producer to use someone's else beat?

    ReplyDelete
  37. lol im just sayin ppl borrow beats/samples for mixtapes etc. It is a fact.

    Im allowed an opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's a BONUS TRACK on a MIXTAPE that just happens to have a Dre feature to bring some attention, it's not like it's off an LP or it's any kind of street single. Put it in some context before you freak out. Maybe we'll see in a few hours if Dre's mastering makes it better, maybe it won't make a difference to most people's ears, but it is what it is and not a big deal. The song is still dope, I couldn't care less if TI already fucked with it, it sounds better with Dre on it anyway.

It isn't a case of a producer using anyone's beat because Dre isn't taking credit for producing anything. He has a verse on it and it's a bonus cut off a mixtape that already has about 90%+ of its joints already put out for hype. Some of you guys make a mile out of an inch to invent shit to get mad at Dre over before putting the pieces together and just enjoying the music first. If it said it was produced or co-produced by Dre, you would have a point about dudes co-opting old beats for themselves, but this is not one of those times because Dre is on the joint as a rapper, not a producer. Good lord, what is there to be mad at? Just enjoy the joint, you probably wouldn't have given two shits about it either way if Dre's name wasn't anywhere near it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Nico

I've followed Slim and his hype for a minute but what caught my attention best before his name started getting out there was his verse on that Khalil/Detox leak Could've Been You, a song I really dug. I'm not the biggest fan of what Slim does or how he does it but obviously being an admirer of Dre's production techniques and style, I'll fuck with what he's doing. Mothafucking Streets, 1000 Gram Man, It's Cold Out Here, all those old songs that leaked ages ago just weren't doing it for me as far as his talent. The fact he was signed to Shady-G-Unit-Aftermath and he wasn't exactly blowing me away even over these hot Dre beats irked me (except for CBY). The fact Bishop got forced into label politics hell and not allowed to do shit until he finally left and pretty much traded with Slim irked me. So I'm not even a big fan of Slim but he can get better if he tries, otherwise he'll just end up like 50 Cent, doing the same album four times and being musically irrelevant. Slim is kind of gimmicky, his flow, lyricism, and style is plateaued, and I know it's not his fault but I shake my head Dre replaced Bishop Lamont with him. Fuck that. So that's the context part of it.

The songs themselves on War Music were hit and mostly miss for me because even if I dug some the first listen or two (and they're not bad songs), they had absolutely no staying power. The only ones that had any replay value for me until now was South Central Blues, Back Against the Wall, and Whose House. I'm fucking with the rest right now, going through War Music from track 1 to 11, but I have low expectations. Slim is getting such a huge boost because that gangsta shit still sells better than anyone who isn't projecting that shit but doing real, good hip-hop for the sake of hip-hop.

To put it one way, I want to see the direction Dre takes and develops Slim than what Slim does himself. This took me a long ass time to go over and over to make sure it's typed alright so there you go, that's my opinion just for yuo.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you
For the first time I actually read a 3 paragraph post - LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow now it says produced by dre and Jake one on the new mix tape artwork where it's no longer a bonus track. It's like they forgot the beat already droped! This is a great example of dre slapping his name FIRST on the credits. Total bs!

    ReplyDelete
  51. i would like to know how was people's reaction to game, em, snoop, 50, when they started their carreers. I bet there were alot of haters saying they wont make it, but each one of those did at least one or two "big" albums, even dre, after the chronic, many people said dre fell off then he made them stfu

Now i dont want to sound like am comparing slim to dre, but now even with just a mixtape, people are saying slim aint shit, you never know how it will be in the futue especially with his work on detox and his first lp.

And btw i would like it if someone answers my first part of my comment (about the begining of the carreers of dre-affliated artists).

This is what Dre has done
    1. Added some echoes - on few verses. Mostly on Slims - first few parts.
    2. Seems the song is slighly bassier, less trebble. A lot easier to hear. Maybe he was mastering using beats by dre headphone - bhwahahahaha
I actually like it this way.

  55. Man people get way mad over nothing, even talking about Dre/Detox people are getting worked up.

For the record I live nowhere near either of my parents. I'm in my new place supporting myself and my girlfriend since I got my first place in Oakland a year and a half ago, and I came up to the bay from Socal with nothing but my car and my clothes in the trunk. I'm doing fine, I live in a better part of the city, and the bills are getting paid. I'm grateful for what I do have at least, I'm not living it up or blowing money or lying about it to you but I get by just fine. I'd ask about you or who you are but I don't give a shit and I'd rather talk about Dre and Detox.

Now if you want to stop being a man fan and trying to do a shit job of trolling people on a Detox blog, tell me what got you mad in the first place and we can move on. It's your kind of little kid bullshit that forces Uzee to screen all the comments for the rest of us.

  59. The mixtape isn't bad but I personally I don't find it that dope, I don't feel like going through it again right now but that's my opinion. It's well-produced for what it is but Slim just isn't the sort of rapper I get excited about, he falls flat for me even if his flow is alright. I'd rather listen to Bishop's The Confessional mixtape or something.

Back Against the Wall's beat vaguely reminds me of that Detox reference leak Coming Back but the latter was 10x better. Dre's lyrics are hot but it's clear as day it was written by Slim and the flow imitates his.

Whoo Kid was the G-Unit DJ wasn't he? Of course there are gunshots, dude is still living in 2003-2004... he stills talks about the Dre mixtape but why even bother at this point? Look how long it took just to get this Slim shit out and god knows how much that took away from Detox. I'd rather get Detox than wasting more enormous amounts of time on something stupid that likely will never see the light of day anyway. Dre isn't a mixtape person, his albums are just about using any and every collaboration to use all the time in the world to construct the most perfected hip-hop albums, so the entire concept doesn't compute.

I think Slim mentioned putting out War Music without tags but whatever. I don't see it being a big underground thing at this point, he needs to learn patience and just wait for Detox to get his buzz. I hope Dre isn't taking requests for beats for anyone and is just left alone, even if we get no output for a while, to just get Detox finished. I don't know what trap everyone keeps falling into that prevents it from seeing the light of day but we know goddamn well the material exists. For some reason putting it together, reworking, mixing, and perfecting it as one album is the step that stops Dre in his tracks and I wish he'd at least explain it that. He doesn't have to apologize for shit or feel like he owes anyone but it would shed a forgiving light on the process so people aren't quick to believe it's somehow "easy" for Dre to make a perfect album, live up to the hype, and please everyone with only one album.

  60. like the beats but slims flow doesnt sit right with me yet. slims got his whole back tatted with the aftermath A logo, must have alot of faith in dre's label, and not sure if that faith is misplaced, given that aftermath has propped and dropped many arguably higher calibre mcs like hittman, busta, eve, rakim, xzibit, stat quo, hayes and arguably the best of the proteges, bishop lamont, so there must be something in slim dre n co sees thats yet to be revealed to me unlike with kendrick
