The field is just as crazy as last week, the stage banter is starting
off the same and "Gin and Juice" was the third song in the set again at
Coachella 2012.
However, the crowd is even more amped than last week, which I didn't think would be possible thanks to the Coachella weekend two heat wave. The "Gin and Juice" singalong was even louder.
Well played, Coachella fans. Well played.
"Nuthin But a 'G' Thang" is also making the crowd go crazy.
The biggest difference between Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's headlining set tonight and last Sunday was that everyone knew about the Tupac Shakur hologram and had their smartphones and cameras ready to capture the hologram for "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."
Beyond that, the hip-hop legends delivered a parade of hip-hop stars again, including Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Tony Yayo.
Kurupt didn't make the trip this week, though.
That being said, while the set list was just like last week, it still delivered in an epic way and was a fitting end to the most epic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival yet, one that saw the ever-popular taste-making pop culture event expand to two weekends with identical lineups.
Judging by the incredibly packed field, the fans approved

No one cares. the legacy is done. Shut it down Uzee
ReplyDeleteEven DJ quick (who was in all the snoop sessions) says it aint coming out...Game has left interscope..the writting is on the wall.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else on here. Close down this Dre blog man. The message Dre was trying to send with the tupac hologram is a metaphor for Detox. A ghost, its not real. You might see glimpes of it that appear real, but its not. For our sake Uzee, get rid of this blog once and for all. Give a reason why you shouldn't.
ReplyDeleteWAIT, detox is still comin isnt it? Obie said it was done and DOC said its comin out in 2012, the year aint over yet people!
ReplyDelete-kizman-
I wonder why dre even bothers to say look out for detox. Better to say this when he knows that his ready to release the album. Otherwise I guess its all procrastination ....
ReplyDeleteIts funny that all the people telling uzze to close down the are anonymous! I still believe dre has something! He has put too much time and effort into detox to not release it. Without Detox slim the mobster will fall off quick!! Im still with dre!!
ReplyDeleteNews flash slim the mobster has fallen off, the guy is old and still no album
Deletewhen did he last say look out for detox?? the documentary? lol
ReplyDeleteMad whining and shit on here. Like I said, Dre has some of the worst fans in existence. He doesn't go out of his way to use Coachella to drop Detox, when literally nobody said was happening in a million years but the people bitching about it now, and these sets were about giving a dope ass show which he did. If he used the CG Pac to drop Detox, Dre would get mad shit for exploiting Tupac's image to sell his album. He can't win. Nothing he can do. Even if he put out Detox tomorrow, these same people bitching here would bitch even louder it's not this or that.
ReplyDeleteInstead of shouting down Uzee to shut it down, why not just leave and stop posting on here? We can weed some of you motherfuckers out and keep the serious fans for serious conversations.
Slim never got on in the first place let alone fall off

DeleteYa i think i might be taking a break from this site for awhile. For the people obsessed with this shit, just remember that there is good music out there being released besides dr dre produced shit, and like i said a couple of months ago, when it comes out it comes out. with that, here is a dope new release from warren g with a nate dogg hook, and one of the best beats from dr dre that I have ever heard.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.hiphopdx.com/index/singles/id.20024/title.warren-g-f-nate-dogg-game-party-we-will-throw-now

dre didnt produce it, warren himself did
Deleteyou read the sentence wrong
DeletePlugin, weeding everyone out would only leave you. No one else here has any faith left.
ReplyDeletePlugin, weeding everyone out would leave only you. No one has any faith left here. Your a disgrace plugin. Plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteGood lord man it's just a hip-hop album! I've been saying for a while to not expect any Detox news or announcements from Coachella, not to mention the months and months of putting shit in perspective here. Whatever I've done or said, at least I've never freaked out and lost my shit on the internet over a hip-hop album. Disgrace, son? Leave the blog, stop the bitching, and move on already. Stick to your bullshit and stop posting on here and let's see how long that lasts.
DeleteDetox is dead.
ReplyDeleteDre's legacy actually will be tarnished by this mythical album. Too bad. He should drop something. Even the stuff he has in his "vault" would be classic material. It's so sad that he lacks self-confidence which did indeed lead to what he feared the most: anticipointment!
Hey Dre, you're only #3 on the Forbes list....drop some new music...
I watched the coachella set and yeah it was fun for a little while, however, those songs are soooooo old now. I got sick of it really quick and didn't enjoy it much. So played out!
The Tupac thing was cool but they need new songs. I just can't believe Dre doesn't believe in himself enough to drop any new music. It's actually pretty pathetic.
Well, its been fun. I'm done following on here. Peace.

ReplyDeleteI'm done lol whatever the fuck that means...
ReplyDeleteHe didn't mention an upcoming album so I'm no longer a fan... Are you serious? You guys fucking suck, please leave and kindly GFYS. Enjoy the 13 crap songs Young Money puts out this week...
Everyone on here needs to shut the fuck up! When any solid Detox info comes out all you motherfuckers will be back on here!!

ReplyDeleteThis shit is sad.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I would like to point out that we all must realize something is fucked up when the most exciting news on this blog (after Dre's second Coachella performance) is that Rory is the clown that claimed himself as "S" "Tom H." and even myself. What a joke -- this blog is supposed to be about serious conversation/debate and not games.
I'm mixed on the rest of the comments. Plugin is correct in stating that if people don't want to be on the blog anymore, then move on. The site isn't just about Detox, its' about Dr. Dre -- and there will still be Dr. Dre news. But I get the point. Shit is alot less interesting to discuss when there are no new developments that people care about.
On the other hand, people ABSOLUTELY have a right to be pissed about Detox and to shit on Dr. Dre about it. I don't need a fucking lecture about Dre fans being "the worst." Dre deserves shit right now. You cannot hype an album up and then go stone silent for year after year, with no updates. The man is a legend and does not owe any new music to anyone -- but what he does owe his fans is a simple heads up about whether the fucking album is coming or not. If he can release a video about "not going on tour" with the Tupac hologram, he damn sure can release something about Detox. He purposely not doing so for publicity purposes -- and I'm sick of the shit.
With that said, I can't say that I am going to completely leave the blog -- but I'll check in less often. This shit looks like it's starting to become a game and we are all playing ourselves by listening to an artist who seems to have little intent, inspiration, or motivation to release new music.
Bwash
Wow, it sounds like people need to listen to Dre's verse on "Hello" and get some perspective. Matter of fact, listen to "Forgot About Dre" while you're at it. Anyone notice how it's like history repeating itself? Fans were dissing Dre like this back in the late 90's before 2001 came out, almost word for word the same stupid little hating comments. It's hilarious! But what happened? He finally dropped 2001, and it completely changed the hip-hop world, and West Coast hip-hop especially, going 6x platinum (and he "didn't have to do it with 10 or 11 year olds"). Detox will come when it comes, and watch, it will be just as powerful and influential as 2001.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but before he dropped "2001" he showed us he still got it by producing sick tracks for other artists like that track "B-Please" for Snoop and "Guilty Conscience" for Eminem.
DeleteThat's the difference with nowadays. He hasn't produced a classic track in years.
Renzo
So I take it that you are not a fan of "Kush", "Die Hard", "Back Against the Wall", "Popped Off", or "The Recipe"? Maybe once Kendrick Lamar's Aftermath album drops you'll change your mind.
Delete1. All average tracks. Maybe some are pretty good, but not very good or classic.
Delete2. Dre didn't even co-produce most of these which means he has no inspiration to produce something dope himself.
Renzo
I hope you are right KP. Its just that it feels different this time around. It really does...
ReplyDeleteIt's different than '99 because he already proved himself. Everyone knows he can mix a classic in the same week you bet he can't, just as all the big names crawl on each others' heads to get face time with him. He's a legend. Doesn't have to prove shit. Doesn't have to put out Detox.
ReplyDeleteThe big point that's gone missing, that I've not mentioned hoping someone else would throw it out there, is that Dre isn't going out of his way to fuck with everyone about this album. I get the anger, I've felt it, but don't channel that shit into conspiracy theory ideas that he secretly enjoys trolling hip-hop just because he knows you want Detox. That ain't it.
The simpler reason is that Dre is mixed up into some conflicted shit, knowing this is his absolute last chance to cement his reputation, and knowing damn well whatever he puts out will be ravaged as "not good enough". When you're a perfectionist like he is, and believe me I've heard stories that has me thinking he's on some OCD shit, it's A LOT EASIER TO "KEEP WORKING ON IT" than to say "fuck it" and put it out and let what happens happen. Mentally, that comfort of "give me more time, I'm still 'perfecting' it" goes a long way when you're in his spot, being who he is, smothered under all the hype anchoring Detox down. Not hard to understand. That's my take. Detox isn't dead until he says it is and even so the piles of hard drives he has stacked around the studio will still be there.
Yeah it's annoying he doesn't talk about it but there's a reason for that - it can only hurt him. Dre isn't responsible for all the Detox hype - other people are. I've watched this shit since what, 2003, and all Dre is guilty of is talking about it here and there when he truly felt it was coming, namely by late '05 which was the strongest window the album ever had. Then shit changed. G-Unit eroded, Game and 50 broke the kingdom, Em kind of dropped out with his drug thing and lack of focus, and Detox was all about combining all the hype and strengths of Aftermath's peak into one album. So Dre had to COMPLETELY redo not only the music but the whole concept, idea, and focus of it, and with the original idea gone, it's almost like why put it out?
Bishop came in and it seemed Dre found his new protoge until Interscope stabbed that nigga in the back after stringing him along. Slim came in but Slim is the definition of average. Now we have the TDE roster on Aftermath which to me is the biggest sign of an rebirth for Dre's label since 50 dropped GRODT. You have to understand the big picture of this shit to get a good idea why Detox has been the failed legend it's been. I know I'm rambling but this is shit with a long ass history and the details matter. Dre is just a dude with talents, experiences, and a lot of flaws but the fact he's still even working on this, spending his valuable time on this semi-shelved project for no better reason than because he thinks we deserve the very best, should keep him immune from at least some of the shit dumped on him. That's my take.
blah blah blah...
ReplyDeleteafter all the talk, one thing has not and will not change:
we have no detox and we never will!
bottom line...
Not that my opinion matters, but I tend to agree with plugin here. Dre is all about the new, never re-hashing old beats, or even old talent. With TDE on the Aftermath roster, combined with the older collaborators, it seems like Detox would have the best chance at being released.
ReplyDeleteAnother point which you sort of touched on is that Dre has said in the past that Detox would be his final album. Perhaps in addition to plugin's points, maybe Dre just isn't ready yet to give up the music. Maybe he just isn't ready to "Detox" from hip-hop just yet.
But, it would sure be nice to have some kind of status update from Dre himself.
>maybe Dre just isn't ready yet to give up the music. Maybe he just isn't ready to "Detox" from hip-hop just yet.
DeleteI think that's an excellent thought that makes sense because it's simple. We don't know what his deal is obviously, but there's a good point since he's been doing what he does in the studio for decades, so why would he want to put the nail in the coffin, no matter how good it is, and put an end to putting out his own material? It would suck the air out of making music for himself. If he loves being in the studio, perfecting, mixing, and producing, not for others but just for himself, putting out Detox kind of spells the end of that. The hunger would be gone, the pursuit is no more, and what's done is already done with nothing left to go for.
Detox sort of went from this great idea of taking advantage the peak of Aftermath's dominance when 50, Em, G-Unit, and Game were all on fire and the future that fell apart, and has since been sort of rebuilt and knocked down a handful of times while Dre figures out what he wants it to be. Now it seems like a project he's ready to put out when he feels he can't top himself, retires from being a rapper, and lets it speak for his retirement from producing hip-hop in general. If Dre wants to expand his career doing film scores or something, Detox is the sort of shit that would be the "saved the best for last" kind of project at this point. If he has the hunger to keep perfecting, keep recording, keep developing ideas, and keep innovating, why release your very last album? Makes sense to me even if that's the shit nobody wants to hear or accept.
