Dre & Eminem Break Down 'I Need a Doctor' Video

Rap icons Dr. Dre and Eminem sat down with "Extra" to talk about their new music video collaboration, "I Need a Doctor."

Dr. Dre, who hasn't recorded an album in 10 years, said he feels this new song is a rebirth. "It's funny, cause last night it almost felt like this song and this video was the rebirth of something. The rebirth of me going to whatever the future holds for me."

There's a car crash sequence in the video, which Eminem explained. "I think it, metaphorically speaking, feels like Dre's been in a coma and, like, me and hip hop are trying to wake him up out of his coma."

Eminem continued, "My whole career, especially in the beginning and even still to this day, is to always get a reaction out of Dre. This track, the reaction I wanted, was to spark him even more than he has been sparked, you know what I'm saying? Even push it further and get him to finish the album."

I Need a Doctor video released

The Doctor is in. Dr. Dre reflects on his storied career and life in the seven-and-a-half-minute video for “I Need a Doctor,” the first official single from his long-awaited album Detox. Directed by Joseph Kahn, the clip opens with the Compton rapper getting into a car accident while nostalgic images of him as a husband, father, and entertainer flash across the screen.

Years later, his loyal protégé Eminem is seen standing by his side while he remains on life support. Producer Alex Da Kid and singer-songwriter Skylar Grey make cameos as doctors who try to bring him back to life.

When he does finally awaken, Dre wastes no time getting back into shape, emerging stronger than ever. The video closes with a shot of him visiting the late Eazy-E’s grave.

The video below is MTV special RapFix discussing about Dr Dre, with special guests Alex Da Kid and Skylar Grey.

Post-Grammy views of 'I Need a Doctor'

After the Grammys, the single has moved back up - to 2nd spot.

The GRAMMY performance has also gained the attention of several celebrities, including praise from Kelly Clarkson and Shirley Manson from Garbage.

Kelly Clarkson “I have been so tired of music lately….Finally, Dr. Dre comes out with something so great. His new song “I Need A Doctor” feat Eminem and Skylar Grey is a fresh taste of what music has the capability of being….I’m inspired and loving every second of this song.”

Shirley Manson “Why didn’t they ever show ….Skylar Grey’s…. face during my darling angel Eminem and Dre’s slot?!?!? It was very weird….especially as she is incredibly beautiful AND (more importantly) responsible for writing two of the most killer choruses in POP this last year or so. Talented AND gorgeous? Why sit on that?!??!?!”

50Cent Writes Song About Jimmy Iovine & Dre that will give Eminem a “Heart Attack”

50 Cent is finally ready to lift the lid on the apparent problems over at Team Interscope in a new song.

Once the darling of Aftermath and Interscope, 50 Cent’s relationships with Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre appeared to come under some strain during his high-profile feud with The Game. A few years and a couple of Dre-free, chart middling albums later and 50’s finally ready to speak about how “The Machine” broke down.

Speaking via Twitter yesterday 50 offered “Would you faint if I told you I just wrote a verse about jimmy [Iovine] and [Dr] dre. Oh my god this is hard” continuing “Em [Eminem] gonna have a heart attack when he hear this sh*t damn lol”. 50 Cent has never publicly acknowledged the mounting tensions at the West-Coast label but he’s hinted at problems in the past. Seemingly referring to the Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre manufactured Beats By Dre partnership 50 expanded “I don’t get it when they did there deal I didn’t get up set. Now I’m mad they didn’t put me or EM in that deal. F*ck this sh*t I QUIT”. This current situation is a far cry from 2005 when Jimmy Iovine was seen regularly wearing G-Unit trainers and clothing and the pair were seemingly inseparable.

Expect the song to be included on 50 Cent’s last album with Interscope, Black Magic which is scheduled for a summer release.

Kendrick Lamar Brings Out Dre In LA

West Coast artist of the new breed Kendrick Lamar performed at a sold out show at The Key Club in Hollywood, Los Angeles last night. Apart from J. Cole, DJ Quik, Big Sean, Jay Rock, Dom Kennedy, Schoolboy Q & Murs being in attendance, Kendrick pulled the biggest surprise by inviting Dr. Dre to the stage. The doc then grooved to ‘Kush’ and expressed his support for the young MC.

Grammy performance with additional assistance from Adam Levine

When Eminem hits the stage, he rarely goes it alone, having already lit up Grammy night with pop luminaries like Elton John and hip-hop upstarts like Drake. This year, he's taking it back to his hip-hop roots by teaming up with longtime mentor and rap legend Dr. Dre, with additional assistance from Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.

Sunday's performance promises to be a major hip-hop moment, as not only will Eminem rip the stage, but the set will mark Dre's first live performance in more than 10 years (not counting his hysteria-inducing cameos at Shady and Jay-Z's Home and Home Tour). But what should fans expect from the Doc and Em's first joint awards-show matchup in over a decade? Well, if we take cues from their onstage team-ups back in the day, we can expect the greats to school anyone who may have forgotten about their concert chemistry and serve up more of their renowned, top-flight lyricism.

Nottz Details His Contributions To Detox

Nottz tells Conspiracy Worldwide Radio that five years ago, he had the "Detox" intro with Dre and Game, and all these later, he believes his beat will be the first you hear on the anticipated LP.

Famed Virgina producer/emcee Nottz released his first solo album last year in You Need This Music. Additionally, the longtime hit-maker for Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah and Little Brother produced Rah Digga's comeback album, Classic, and a free mixtape with Asher Roth, Rawth EP . With a banner year in 2010, Nottz may get a massive commercial breakthrough this year, should Dr. Dre finally decided to release Detox. Speaking with Conspiracy Worldwide Radio last evening, Nottz touched on his long-standing contributions to Dr. Dre's third and final ensemble album.

"When [Dr. Dre] first started talking about Detox, I had the first joint on that album. Now, I have the first joint on this [latest working version] of the album," said Nottz, referring to Dre's work in the early '00s as well as more recent creations. "The first song, Game did a verse to it, and Dre was on it; they rapped on the intro of the album," he revealed. "I never heard it, but Dre and them told me about it, that it was hot. Just Blaze told me that he heard the joint [and thought] it was crazy [also]."

Although Nottz did not indicate which songs, that initial early '00s Detox production would later be used by two then-Aftermath Entertainment artists. "I had did two versions to the track," Nottz said, before Busta Rhymes and Stat Quo both recorded to the song.

As far as the title of the early incarnation of Detox, Nottz also revealed that Dre and Game were going to kick the album off with a song title "As God As Might Witness," he said, before hesitating "or something like that."

Nottz, who on several occasions flew to California to work in Dr. Dre's recording studio compound, has watched Detox  shift in sound and focus. On his first encounter with Dr. Dre, Nottz said that the N.W.A. alum played him 40 beats, all rooted in the sound employed on his 1992 solo debut The Chronic. Noting that Dre's production team, which once included Scott Storch, Mike Elizondo and Mel-Man, now includes Dewaun Parker, Che Vicious and others has changed, Nottz revealed that a more recent sampling of Detox sounds was built upon "30 east coast tracks." Nottz, who has worked with some of New York Hip Hop's biggest names said, "It threw me off, 'cause it was all east coast records. Then he scrapped all of them, threw them out." Despite the change of sonic climate, Nottz rests assured, "I think he kept like two of my joints." The producer is also under the impression that both Jake One and DJ Khalil have confirmed placements on the album, expected to release this year.

Then again, Nottz can only be so sure. As this Detox album has changed and evolved throughout the last decade, Conspiracy Worldwide's host, Mista Montana, asked Nottz how certain he was that he still had that Detox intro, the veteran confirmed, "We got checks cut, but you know, records don't make albums."

I Need a Doctor leaps TOPS the iTunes charts

Just less than a day into the release, 'I Need a Doctor' just passed 'Love the Way You Lie' on iTunes into rank 84, 13, 9, 3, 2 and now ranking at 1.

Dre is maybe trying to pull in new/young generation people that dont know him, through Eminem etc.  Back in 1999, the young folks heard about Dre through Eminem  etc.  Maybe it was the same for some who were young back in 1999.

They probably using the same strategy now. Maybe im wrong.

Watch this space for the new music video which was directed by Allen Hughes, who was behind the movie 'The Book of Eli'.

Support Dr Dre and buy the single
