D.O.C: "all in Dre's hand now"

D.O.C was asked by a fan about Detox:

@luklolx : @WESTCOASTDOC You said that promo would start in November: nothing. Can you at least tell your fans anything about Detox ?

@WESTCOASTDOC: @luklolx All in Dre's hands now.

  1. Wow! This is really a breakthrough...

  2. not necessarily - it could simply mean that DOC is shifting the focus away from himself, so that he himself - wouldn't have to again give another rough release date/schedule.

  3. To me this means Detox is completly done, mixed, everything!! It's just on Dre to release it

  4. To me this is bad news, "all in Dre's hands" I assume D.O.C. gave up on dre and detox is just up to dre now

  5. What ever happened to scott storch? I remember back last year he said detox was wrapping up. On the doggisodes, snoop was saying they need to come up with something crazy to compare to still dre, but i think storch needs to be in the mix for that to happen. Anyone heard anything about him? He's probably one of the best beat makers ever imo

  6. DOC is being purposely vague so there are enough ways to interpret what that actually means.

It could mean sessions for Detox are no more and all that's left is to choose the songs, mix, master, and finalize. If this was true, it doesn't necessarily mean anything; Dre "changes his mind" like he blinks and everyone knows it. Don't hold your breath quite yet.

It could mean DOC is not doing anyone any favors by promising things that aren't in his control. Perhaps he expected Detox to wrap up and see some forward promotion by Q4 2011 but making public declarations only served to disappoint fans and taint his credibility. He has nothing to gain by promising things to anxious fans because it's done when it's done and it's finished when it's finished - it's up to Dre, not DOC, so DOC can't promise things he has no control over.

It could mean DOC has already gone back to Dallas to do his own thing after putting in his work and time into Detox.

He arrived in LA to help Dre work on it and at the time said he's there for six months and that's about it. Is it finished or is he given up? It's not the point. It means DOC is not there, he's not working on it, and it's not his place to answer anymore. He already had plans with his experimental vocal chord surgery, his reality show, and his new album and this is what he's concentrating on. Detox is Dre's project and Dre's project only, so because he's not working on it anymore, he can't say anything about it now. Only Dre really knows and has the right to give dates or make promises.

To me these are the three best possibilities.

  8. It's simple not coming anytime soon, uzee this "all in dre's hand" can mean so many things... If detox doesn't have anything by the end of February I'm convinced this album will flop

  11. Is this really how desperate the blog is? Using a tweet as a reliable resource?! I really don't think DOC should be tweeting anymore he doesn't know shit.
and for mr chow why even show up to this blog lol you're an idiot no one likes you if you think we are racist, gook

  12. ^^ i never said DOC is a reliable source - i always said doesn't matter how close these ppl r with Dre (including snoop etc) we still wont get a truthful/accurate/reliable info.

  13. If there was ever a halfway reliable source for Detox besides Dre, it probably would be DOC since he was, you know, tasked with finishing the album by Dre himself.

You can make of it what you will but it's dumb to suggest because it's from Twitter, it cannot be taken seriously. That shit ain't necessarily true. The DOC is a legend and Dre reached out to him to help him get Detox finished, and we saw the videos of him leading the sessions and likely ghostwriting shit. You make it sound like it's some random nobody on Twitter and because of that I can't take you or your opinions seriously.

some of us are not fully blocking dre's close contacts, we just not jumping to conclusions.

  15. Uzee answer me this question! Put your ego aside!
Do you think Detox is a joke? I'm being dead serious about this. This album was supposed to be out 2004, it's 7 years going now to 8. Dr Dre always says its done but never is

  16. Trust me people Detox is dropping this year i'm not going to say soon cause i'm not a troll and i'm not a insider but I read a lot do some heavy research follow forums on detox so I can tell it's coming this year MAYBE soon, just a MAYBE i'm saying remember that because the Doc's response is consistent with what Kendrick, Snoop and DOC said a few months back regarding Detox plus the fact that Kendrick and Slim The Mobster have to drop there albums this year and in order for that to happen Detox must drop and Dr. Dre beats need some promotion SERIOUS PROMOTION and what better way to do that then Detox trust me people this year is the year of the west the wait is coming to a end hopefully soon

  17. Detox was supposed to be out in '03 but it's not a "joke", we already have a good idea why it's still unreleased, one reason being Dre dropping it completely in 2004 and then taking long breaks away from it to work on other people's shit. It's not like he's sat down and worked on the same album continuously for ten years. Nobody can summarize the legend of Detox because there's too many details and shit, but you can at least ask yourself why Dre would cut that many checks to contributors, spend years of his time devoting himself to producing and mixing tracks, and putting holes in his rep over it if he had no intention of putting it out.

Dr. Dre isn't the sort of guy that's going to ignore the million lucrative requests and others' high-profile projects to work on this album, seen as a joke by almost everyone now, if he wasn't dead set on at least trying to complete it. Why would he waste so much time and money on a shelved project? We know a lot of the beats he's given away since '03 were from Detox sessions. There's no magic secret or Illuminati bullshit about it - everyone says the same thing: he's a perfectionist, he demands to top himself and everything else, and it ain't finished until he thinks it's flawless in every which way. Obviously it hasn't been easy and like Mannie said, you can't expect a masterpiece without expecting a lot of patience to come with it. It's frustrating and seems like bullshit on its face but the simple answer is Dre is a perfectionist, always was, and doesn't release things under his name, especially his solo music, until and only until he feels it's next-level flawless classic shit, period. That's it and that's all.

He wants to put it out but he's not going to release anything until he feels it's the best he'll ever do and "right". This is his last LP and the impossible ass hype is a lot to hurdle over because no matter how great it is, people will put it down because they expect it to be the Sistine Chapel when it's only ever going to be a rap album and nothing more. A collection of songs, no matter how next-level and awe-inspiring they are, will never live up to the fantasies in people's heads. It's like they expect the songs to unleash a burst of heroin-induced euphoria with every snare echoing out the speakers. He wants to finish it and put it out, but this Detox thing is nothing new, it's just that times are changed and it's a lot harder to reinvent hip-hop the way he did with the 2001 album which was all co-produced by Mel-Man and Elizondo. He's approaching 50, music is a different market and everything these days, and plus Aftermath ain't what it was when Dre started this Detox thing in the first place.

My point is to give him some break and don't take it too seriously enough to get mad until concrete info or songs start coming out, because there's more to music and life than shitting on Dre for not putting out Detox yet. It is what it is and it's done when it's done and it's only up to Dre to put it out when he feels it's ready. Nothing can change that. I said before that Bishop Lamont is starting to finish up and ready his release of The Reformation after so many delays and bullshit, and if anything it should give people hope that Detox's release is possible. Bishop did take the hundreds of Dre session masters with him and is still on good terms with him, so if he kept any for his album (doubtful but possible) it may give us something to chew on while waiting for Detox at least. Some of the Dre-Bishop leaks years ago were hot.
