Snoop says he needs to be part of Detox, Dre's with the wrong people

Rapper Snoop Dogg recently shed some light on why he believes that Dr. Dre's 'Detox' album has seen so many lengthy delays.

During an interview with Tim Westwood, rapper Snoop Dogg gave some interesting insight on why he believes there’s been such a delay in releasing Dr. Dre’s Detox album. Snoop explained that the main problem is the type of environment Dre’s creating his music in.

“It’s a formula. Like I was trying to explain to you earlier when we made records in the past it was an environment, an atmosphere. It was always girls,” Snoop explained. “It was always parties. It was always the right atmosphere to create that kind of album that sounds like the albums that you’ve heard in the past. If there’s not that atmosphere you can’t create that kind of album. So that’s what’s happening right now. The songs don’t match the atmosphere and the atmosphere don’t match the songs.”

Snoop went on to explain that due to his perfectionist side Dr. Dre is unlikely to release anything until he feels that it’s close to perfect.

“What we’re accustomed to hearing from Dr. Dre is the brand new, next best everything and from right now people not getting that. He knows that,” said Snoop. “So he’s a perfectionist and until he gets that he’s not gonna release it cause he doesn’t want the scrutiny of people saying ‘I waited this long for that?’ It’s like when I wait this long I better get that and that.”

Snoop also shed some light on the fact that Dr. Dre may not be surrounding himself with the right people when it comes to making his album. He also shared that he feels like he and D.O.C. need to be a part of Detox in order for it to work.

“I’mma say this and I don’t know if it’s gonna ruffle any feathers. I just think the wrong people is in the environment. When he made records that were hit records in the past: D.O.C., Snoop Dogg, RBX, Kurupt,” said the rapper. “It’s like it’s pieces that’s not there that need to be there. And I’ll say D.O.C. and Snoop Dogg is the backbone. When you take those two equations and you take them out of the equation it’s not gonna work. You need to put them two back into the situation and let us mastermind and head the project like we did The Chronic in 2001. That’s what’s missing.”

  1. I think Snoop is 100% correct. Gives some nice insight, obviously Dre is leaving the DOC and Snoop.

Be interesting to see how this album turns out now...

  2. Yes, it's a part of the music industry we, as fans, don't know about. But some people stayin behind the scenes took advantage of this art and now it is corrupted.

I think Uzee already posted the D.O.C. interview where he reveals some of the things that happened in the shadow and how he got robbed by this people.
But here is another interview where he talks about it:

  3. PS:
I hope that DRE still has the power to reunite the old crew(remember that he sold most of his Aftermath's shares to Interscope...)
    So let's hope so.

    Peace

  4. I WAS a big fan of snoop back in the early 90s He started to put out some good stuff again in the late 90s early 2000 when him and Dre reuinited on a couple of his no limit releases everything since has not been impressive I think Snoop deserves to be on Detox The DOC doesn't his careers been over for two decades there is nothing he has to offer I thought it was already confirmed 3 years ago about Snoop being on the album For him to say they need the same atmosphere as 1993-2000 to make a hit record is bullshit Aren't Snoop and Dre both married with kids come on I think it's time to grow up Dre needs to be mature about this album. If people want a gangster rap album then go out and repurchase Dres library I have to say I am not angry but disappointed that there is no album yet I really hoped the album would be dropping by now but it looks like there will be no summer release BUMMER I just like to here from Dre himself on its status plus where is Die Hard I was really looking forward to it there was nothing wrong with that track I think Dre needs to stay with he's going with I personally do not want to hear another gangster rap I am so tired of that played out bullshit if that is the case then Detox should be shelved indefinitely I would like to hear something real from Dre that reflects his life and legacy and his direction the stuff he has put out so far although unfinished is worthy of release Dre doesn't need to rely on the Doc or Snoop to make Detox work He's got plenty of way better talent around him He just needs to choose STILL PATIENTLY WAITING FOR DETOX UZEE CAN I HAVE YOUR INPUT PLEASE ArtMan

  5. DOC and snoop were essential in making the chronic and dre 2001... lyrics they wrote for dre and vocals they laid down. Without doc or snoop there is no dr. dre hits off those albums.

  7. Detox is never coming out

Even if it does, without DOC it will be shit, he was most important contributor on past 2 chronics

Some People on this blog are delusional

  8. bah, it won't be anything like The Chronic or Chronic 2001 and it was never going to be. Even if the D.O.C and Snoop Dogg were working on Detox and all the original 2001 and Chronic 'Aftermathmadics' were back making an album it would pretty much be a more refined version of both albums too many similarities in my opinion. What Dre's doing kind of sucks but in a way he could be doing something good. I think that if Dre set his album up to bring up people like Jay Rock/Kendrick Lamar/Tyler the creator/other underground West Coast rappers, he'd be paving the way for the new West Coast. lets think back to people who owe a big thanks to their career starting off; Snoop - he played a big part in his upbringing. Eminem - easily one of the greatest of all time, found by Dre. 50 cent - Dre did most of his producing before his albums got bad (my opinion last 2 were mediocre) Game - respectfully kept West coast-Mainstream gangsta rap alive. Hell theres shitloads more, you could even say he contributed to people like Ice Cube, Xzibit. I think that Detox could be a FRESH-NEW classic Dre, but at the same time i beleive it could be a FORCED-MAINSTREAM-POP album. lets look at the 3 confirmed tracks Kush/INAD/Die Hard. obviously INAD and Die Hard aren't West Coast styled songs, yet in an interview end of last year (lets hope he hasnt changed his mind) he said "Im doing mainly West Coast shit" so im expecting there will be INAD/Die Hard and maybe another song or 2 (for artists like jay-z/nas/50) that is not west coast. The rest of the album though should be West Coast, if not, then he has failed.

  11. Uzee doesnt do anything but google articles when he is awake.. people have posted articles and then uzee will post them up later. This website doesnt have any source or insight into the detox album. All it does is repost articles from other websites. Really just google dr. dre and you can find more info. Uzee has never even had an interview w/ dre or anyone inside of the detox project. Again just google dr. dre

  16. Quote: Uzee has never even had an interview w/ dre or anyone inside of the detox project. Again just google dr. dre

Why google around when he collects the news for me in one place?
So you have had a interview with Dre.... No? Didn't think so because no body has had one with him nobody knows shit except for Dre and maybe Iovine and they surley gone mute or something. From what I could tell not even Snoop or Em knows shit and ain't they supposed to be his proteges? So Uzee keep collecting the shit so I don't have to.

  19. ^then stop going to this site jesus christ. If you all hate this uzee guy so much then do your own research. If you all think that there is no detox then fuck off and go somewhere else. You are all mad because your post that led to this article god deleted and you didnt get credit why does it matter? The article is here on this blog that is why you put the link there in the first place right? As I said you all are crazy little sensitive bitches that have your panties in a bunch because detox is taking so long. I personally think this article is good news in a way, at least whenever detox will be released, if it is released, it will live up to the level of quality that we can expect from dre. I swear to god if you want personal credit for your shit then start your own blog. I dont know why people are mad at this guy he is doing nothing wrong. Everyone needs to calm down and if you cant wait for the album then move on to something else.

    Just chill..

    Till the next episode.

  21. Dre fans not realizing and undercutting the honest truth that the DOC was a huge reason why Dre's shit was dope. Been saying it on this blog for months, nothing new, but it's funny to see so many people in plain denial or ignorance. If you think Dre has done even half of what he's done on his own then you'll be surprised.

The Chronic was totally a team effort, everybody knows it, and Dre has relied on those people (and others later) throughout the years as his team. The Dre signature sound and touch comes from them too. DOC was Dre's guardian angel writing and guiding his shit (as well as Snoop) for years only to get robbed of the credit and recognition he did deserve. Nobody can say exactly how much or how little DOC was an influence but he was with Dre behind the scenes for a long time for a reason.

Not a coincidence he left and Dre's been floundering Detox ever since with no concept or direction. Dre is an extremely well-versed and legendary producer but the kind of next level fire and music he's going for can only come from collaborating with other extremely talented people. DOC is a legend, give the man at least some credit since Dre didn't and threw him under the bus as he's done with others that have ditched the Aftermath purgatory.

  23. I will say this as a loyal fan, from Kush to Die Hard, the album doesn't have that west coast flavor, it sounds a lot like Eminems work, lyrics and type of beats, very anthemic and empowering, kind of like relapse mixed with 8 mile and some modern radio lil wayne Kanye sounds sprinkled in.

I agree with Snoop, you need that aura to capture the right sound, right now sounds way overproduced and contrived as though Dre is trying to make hits instead of make amazing music.

Hope it all get's figured out and he just puts everything he's recorded over the last 10 years out on one giant album. I'd buy it for $100.

  26. wow this album is still not out and there is no release date in sight..if you still are looking forward to it, WAKE UP!

    ReplyDelete
  27. >"right now sounds way overproduced and contrived as though Dre is trying to make hits instead of make amazing music."

Exactly. That's why 2001 is a dope record: it had a concept, it had ideas, and Dre and his people had the talent to bring it out. Dre knew what he wanted to do, he was confident enough to bank his whole comeback on it, and not give a fuck being all timid about critics thinking he's too old, too little, too late. He had an idea to do an evolved, next level gangsta album laced with dark humor + the sound to do it and it worked. Dre knows what works but as far as Detox goes, you can't spin gold from straw if you don't know what you want even if you're an alchemist like Dre.

So Dre can spend another decade biting off other talent with super overproduced nonsense with no release date but it all will still lack any real flavor. The final product is going to be a letdown if we ever see it on a shelf. It'll probably be a dope album in general but for all this hype and wait, it'll take a very short span of time when everybody realizes it wasn't even in the same galaxy as worth it.

  28. FIRST OFF WHAT DRE HAS RELEASED THUS FAR THAT IS COMPLETED ( KUSH I NEED A DOCTOR IS JUST FINE IN MY OPINION ) HIS UNFINISHED STUFF UNDER PRESSURE MR PRESCRIPTION WHICH WE WILL PROBABLY NEVER HEAR COMPLETED AND DIE HARD IS FIRE THIS SHIT ABOUT SNOOP AND D.O.C. BEING THERE FOR DETOX TO BE DOPE IS CRAP IT DOESN'T TAKE A GENIUS TO WRITE THE KIND OF LYRICS THAT WERE ON THE FIRST CHRONIC AND FROM WHAT I KNOW STILL DRE WHICH IN MY OPINION IS STILL THE BEST TRACK FROM 2001 WAS WRITTEN BY NO OTHER THAN JAY Z HIMSELF SO WHAT SNOOP IS SAYING IS BULLSHIT EMINEM HAS BETTER WORK WITH A PEN DR E HAS PLENTY OF TALENT AROUND HIM RIGHT NOW IF ANYTHING IT WAS BECAUSE OF DRE THAT SNOOP THE D.O.C HAD SUCCESS THOSE TWO MUST HAVE PISSED HIM OFF I LOST A LOT OF RESPECT FOR SNOOP SINCE THE PINNACLE OF HIS CAREER WITH THE WHOLE REALITY TV AND SHIT( SO DOES THIS PROVE TO ALL YOU HATERS ON HERE THAT SNOOP IS JUST THE GANGSTER YOUR LOOKING FOR TO FULFILL YOUR DREAMS FOR THIS ALBUM) IM GLAD DRE IS STAYING UNDER THE RADAR AND NOT SELLING OUT THIS WHOLE GANGSTER RAP THING IS BOGUS GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS PEOPLE GANGSTER RAP IS DEAD DRE SAID IT IN 1996 FORGET IT DRE IS FINISHED WITH THAT SHIT THE MAN IS PUSHING 50 IT'S TIME FOR SOMTHING NEW EM ROYCE 5'9 JAY Z SLIM SLY KENDRICK LAMAR JAY ROCK STICK WITH THESE GUYS HES GOT NEW TALENT SNOOP ISN'T SELLING SHIT 120,000 UNITS COMPARED TO 1.6 MILLION DIGITAL DOWNLOADS OF I NEED A DOCTOR SOME PEOPLE MUST BE PLEASED WITH DRE'S WORK SO FAR COMPARED TO THE AVERAGE 30 OF SO HATERS ON EACH OF UZEE'S BLOGS IM BEHIND DRE 100 PERCENT AND ENJOY UZEE'S BLOG ITS QUCK ACCESS TO NEWS ABOUT THE DRE AND IT'S APPRECIATED UZEE YOU SEEM LIKE YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU COULD RESPOND WHEN REQUESTED IT WOULD BE NICE TO HEAR YOUR TAKE ON THIS ISSUE SINCE YOU ARE THE CREATOR OF THIS BLOG FUCK WHAT THESE OTHER " DEDLUSIONAL "PEOPLE ON HEAR ARE SAYING NEGATIVELY ON HERE YOU DON'T OWE THEM SHIT PEACE OUT MAN YOU STILL HAVE MY SUPPORT ART MAN

  29. It isn't negative to tell the truth and air out well-deserved frustration with Dre and Detox, and it doesn't make you a fan to blindly kiss his ass and say everything he does is fire either. The fact Snoop is even saying the same shit publicly some of us were already talking about shows some of us actual fans actually know what we're talking about.

Nobody is saying Detox is predicated on Snoop, he's going to be all over it anyway, but Dre's been surrounding himself with people that have taken him nowhere with no worthy material to show for it. It's a fact. The other thing is Dre's work depends on who he's working with and who he's around because he doesn't produce anything from scratch or write his lyrics. It's not to say the people he works with or collaborates with aren't dope but they're either not fitting, not helping, or taking Detox to the level Dre wants it to be. He's scratching the walls with his nails trying to climb out of the hole he put himself into with all the wait and hype on this album.
