Soopafly to work on Detox, too

The onetime Dogg Pound member and keyboardist for "Natural Born Killaz" adds on the growing list of new and familiar contributors.

Dr. Dre's forthcoming third solo studio album Detox has been in the making for a decade. The Aftermath/Interscope Records release has reportedly included numerous personnel from earlier parts of Dr. Dre's career, including Sir Jinx, DJ Quik, The D.O.C. and others. Another name can be added to this growing list. Today, a press statement from emcee/producer Soopafly confirmed that the Long Beach, California veteran is also contributing to Detox sessions.

"I'm in studio working with Dr. Dre again. Making sure this Detox sound got my imprint on it too. You won't be disappointed,” said Soopafly in a press statement.

A onetime member of Tha Dogg Pound, Soopafly began his career playing keyboards for Death Row Records hits such as "Natural Born Killaz" by Dre and Ice Cube. Burgeoning into emcee and producer, Soopafly stayed at the label that Dre co-founded to the early '00s, after his solo debut, Like It Or Not was shelved indefinitely. On August 30, Soopafly will release his third solo album, Best Kept Secret, on his own Fly2K Records imprint.

  1. Soopafly on DETOX??? Wow !!!!!!!! That's a FUCKING good news ^^
To anybody who still doubts now you CAN'T ! With Soopafly and the D.O.C. back ion the project, you can see Dr. Dre/DETOX is on the right track so I won't mind if we have to wait 6 months longer cause I know this album will be tha shiznit !

  2. Do you really think after nine years that it is really going to be available in six months? This album will come out eventually, because it has to be made at this point, but there really is no telling when that will be, Dre said a year ago the album would be out in two months after the tracks were going to be mixed, and nothing after that. Snoop and DOC both said the album was wack in its current form. No one knows for sure when this thing is really coming out, not even Dre, and heading towards a decade in development, I really wouldn't bank on this album being out in six months. I'm a huge Dre fan and I'm dying to hear the album Ive waited so long for, but it really is a disapointment that there isn't or hasn't been any word from Dre himself about the status of the project other than 'Detox, I'm coming'

  4. so from what im seeing is, i think dre is really confused about detox. so he is now gettin everyone who helped out witht the original chronic and 2001 to make it sound like those previous albums. i think his original idea for detox was to sound different such as the under pressure/kraftwerk sound, a more futuristic sonic sound. but since everyone said it sounded like crap. i think dre is resorting back to his roots. this is good and bad news. good news is they will prob make hot records like they did in 2001 and chronic. and the bad news is like they did in 2001 and chronic. it will be the same concept and same style as those previous records. so i dunno in the end is it worth it?

  6. I'm going to be quite honest with all of you....I am tired of this shit. Now I know why alot of the loyal followers to this blog left, or just dont reply anymore...for the last 2 years it's been one artist after another rambling on about being a part of or working on Detox. If you think this album will be out by the end of the year then you need to get a catscan because son you have brain damage. This lbum wont be out next year....I am starting to think that this album will be eventually scrapped. Too many expectations and not enough direction. I mean what did you expect?? A bunch of high niggas trying to figure out what works and what dosent? This record's window for seeing the light of day is closing. I would love to hear storch's perspective on all of this....especially when he said in December that this thing was finished...lol

    Done waiting.

  8. I read in one interview with DOC where someone asked about someone else's claim that Detox sounds pretty close to "Shit Popped Off". Now that wouldn't have been bad, those 2008-2009 T.I. reference leaks were probably the best shit to get me hyped on Detox. The album won't be out in six months but it's fantastic news DOC is in the room and in charge of this shit. On the other hand, it might be out in six months because for all I know, the songs are done that are going to make the album a classic and the old, real people Dre is bringing back around him are going to stash this new shit away. You don't know. This isn't like a normal album, Detox is a decade-long work-in-progress that changes with Dre's mood. He has more than enough material and people to contribute, it's just about surgically building one cohesive body of work that pleases him, pleases the fans, and pleases his legacy - all three at the same time. It's not easy to do when you're a manic perfectionist like Dre.

  9. No "Dead People"(produced by Dre), on R.E.D. Album

  10. Maybe on Deluxe Edition??

  11. Detox will never be released, its just a big buzz Dre creates to make you think that, so he can work with other artists in the west to try and make the west have a huge comeback in the industry.

  12. Seems like the only Dre tracks are "Drug Test" which he did with DJ Khalil and the parts he supposedly narrates. No features or production besides that but I'm still thinking this is gonna be a dope album with or without him.

  13. UZEE I just saw the tracklisting for the RED album and there are no tracks produced by Dre Im just a little confused. Isn't Game resigned to Aftermath There was also talk of Dre contributing a track or two^( Dead People) You can't believe anything these guys are saying Anyway Drug Test is not up to Par I think for as long as Game has been working on the album I guess I'll have to hear the rest It would be nice though to hear an interview with Dre on today's status with the album since the last time we heard from him the album should have been out by now Any thoughts from you or anyone else on hear you figure if this album is going to resurrect the West there would be more of a contribution from the Dre other than just narrating and Drug Test sorry for being off the topic hope this gets published TY

  14. I'm thinking "Dead People" is "Drug Test" since it has lyrics that reference dead bodies and has the Dre reference. Not up to par, sure, but Game put out two fairly decent albums without Dre anyway. Being on Aftermath doesn't necessarily mean Dre is going to produce all your music (unless you're Eminem), but as far as I know, both Dre and Pharrell executive produced R.E.D. meaning they each had the final say on the final aspects and content of the album. They both get the final say on the finished product so it's wrong to say because there aren't tracks produced by Dre that Dre wasn't involved just because the beats were made by others.

If and when Detox is ready it's going to take off, shut down the industry, and everyone will forget about how long they waited. I think it'll have a big impact, not as big as "2001" IMO or "The Chronic" obviously, but it's going to be a landmark album of the year at the very least. Everyone bitching about it now will be all over it when it sees the light of day, mark my words. There aren't many people still doing whole albums anymore and I have every reason to believe Detox will end up a classic even if a lot of people shit on it when they first hear it (since it won't be up to their impossible expectations). If Dre put "2001" out now, people wouldn't feel it was worth the wait. It's all about perception and perspective. Detox will be huge, Dre will shut down the industry simply by willing it when he feels like it's finally finished.

  15. Why is everyone going on and on about how certain tracks arnt up to detox standards, how would any of you know what detoxs standards are your just guessing none of you know whats going on with detox. For all we know know dre could be planning on not even putting out the album and why should he when all any of you are going to do is bitch about how it's not worth the wait. Put yourself in his shoes, if you were making an album and all the people that are ment to be your fans did nothing but bitch and moan about your music you would think fuck it and give up I know I would. The Chronic and 2001 are both classics and so will Detox when it comes.

  16. 'Dead People' is not 'Drug Test' they removed 'Dead people' from the original track listing and replaced it with dre's skit that is for sure ive heard 'dead people' its mad dope....those who got the first leaked album have 'dead people' 3weeks or so after that it was out. i dont know why. personaly i think it was a mistake
