Rick Ross Confirms working with Dre for Detox and other projects

After photos surfaced of the pair in the studio, Ricky Rozay says that they're working on each other's projects.

Rick Ross recently tweeted a picture of him with Dr. Dre and DJ Khaled in the studio, though it was unclear whether or not the two were working on anything in particular. At last night's Grammy Awards, Ricky Rozay confirmed that the pair were collaborating for both Detox and God Forgives, I Don't, though he remained vague about the songs themselves.

"That's mandatory, my brother," he told MTV News' Sway Calloway on the red carpet when asked if the two were working on God Forgives, I Don't. Calloway followed by asking if they also worked together for Dre's Detox, to which the MMG boss gave the same response. "That's mandatory, my brother," he echoed.

"We making some things happen, man — we just gonna see where the pieces fall," he continued. "But we most definitely putting in major work."

  10. Look, Dre doesnt care what the fans want, he wants a commercial success, right now ross/wayne/bieber/rihanna/gaga/drake are what the kids like, mark my words there will be no west coast artists like kurupt/daz/ren cos they wont sell shit, this album will not have a west coast sound, if it does it will brick, all Dre cares is that its a commercial success

the days of dre putting out an album like efil4zaggin (his greatest production work imo) are long gone

  14. People are taking this way out of contex. Yes there probably is a dre joint on ross's new album but i doubt he is on detox. I presume that Ross is writing for detox like literally every rapper out there. I was recently listening to the topless leak and I believe that both ti's and eminem's verses were intended for dre. We all know that dre is picky when it comes to lyrics and if it means buying Ross a new watch then dre will do it.

  15. I barely noticed that on the song "There He Go" by Schoolboy Q he says, "Word to Dr. Dre, Detox is like a mix away" so maybe it is closer than we think :D

  17. Dre has put in more sessions, work, and contributions from everyone into this album since 2002. Literally everyone. I don't think Ross being the latest name thrown out means much because Dre has always given a chance to whomever to see what comes out of it because it's a smart thing to do. Everyone has worked with Dre on Detox - even Lloyd - do we all get freaked out Lloyd will be on Detox? It's just Dre putting in time, when he's in town, to give these guys a shot to see if his mentoring can squeeze out any potential that may make the final cut of Detox. A lot of you guys are freaking out over nothing special but I get the hate on Ross; I think he's an enormous joke and the worst thing for hip-hop right now.

All that matters is the final cut of Detox and the concept, cohesive sound, and aim that Dre is shooting for. Ross may make Detox but I doubt it. Even Dre and Iovine have said and know Detox can't succeed, no matter what, without the co-sign from the real fans. Ross is hot now, he has his following, so it makes sense to put in a session with him just to see what can come out of it - even Ross said the same thing - no confirmation he's on Detox, no strong hint of it, and no promise of anything. Who hasn't Dre worked with on Detox? They're not all making the album...

Ross is only the latest name thrown out but he's at the end of a line of a million names that have put in a lot more time, contributions, and session work with Dre than he has. Dre was just in town, put in face time at his birthday party, and settled on doing some work on Ross's LP and Detox. These sessions, especially with people Dre just met, are to see what comes out of it - nothing more. Have I driven the point home enough? So yeah Ross may make the cut of Detox (God forbid) but you can say that about hella names - even then it'll just be one Ross verse - big deal. Dre knows what he's doing, he has no need to sell out being a legend, and his goal has always been to take Detox to the next level of hip-hop evolution and put the WC on the map. Don't forget about Dre. You won't find more of an anti-fan of Ross than me but even I'm not concerned because you guys are totally missing the entire context of this whole story. Putting in a session or two =/= shit. What matters is the final cut of Detox and if Ross makes a feature, it'll be one verse and life goes on, and even then I really doubt that's happening. Plus every verse Dre spits on on a song is penned by a whole lot of others and he chooses which works. If Ross puts in a verse for a song, it's against 10 others writing for the same song.

Point is: don't get freaked out. On one hand you guys think Detox is done, on the other you think a session in Miami with Ross automatically means he's on Detox, forgetting Dre works with everyone in hip-hop to see if there's potential he can work with for the final cut. Dude has thousands of joints on hard drive and only 12-17 tracks will make Detox, how many you want to bet among those thousands are features with artists we would hate to see on Detox?

  18. ya dre is incapable of making a decision that might be controversial these days. Im guessing that the controvercy that ensues from dre working with rick ross will cause dre to scrap the detox project, cancel cochella, and cry in his studio for days on end yelling in the fetal position crying, "what do they want?!?! for god's sake why is this so haarrrrrrrdddd!!! Why.*inhale* dont. *inhale* they like I need a doctor!!!

Lol im jk just drunk from old english. but seriously this is not a big deal. Im sure dre has enough common sense to realize that rick ross would not be a good fit for detox.

  19. In the grand scheme of things this should tell us that dre is not even close to completion. if dre is going around telling artists that this shit might end up on detox, it indicates that he is not decided about the final tracklist and not sure if he has all the components that he needs for detox, and therefore isnt even close to being ready to releasing anything. once these rumors stop circulating we will know that is a good indication that dre is settled and ready to release the shit that he has. Make no mistake, we are months away from a release date.

    1. If you have been paying attention to detox in the past few ears you will discover that dre dosnt operate like that. You are making it sound like dre is starting detox from scratch. Dre has been constantly mixing and altering tracks. Take popped off. This track sounded complete in 2008, and Dre just gave the beat to Ti. Dre is making constant progress on detox and the final mastering process wont take long as dre does so much work when it comes to the creation of a track.

  20. agreed, he has to strike a balance between what's hot and what fans want, that is a very difficult thing to do in 2012...

i think you are right though release date is months off (if at all)

  21. For all we know, Detox really is a mix or two away, and what Dre feels it needs is that Southern bounce joint which is why he's hopped into sessions with Nelly, Meek, Ross, Lil Wayne, and these other guys. Just like a lot of people have admitted, you just NEVER know with Dre. We could be way off the mark on finishing Detox, or we could all be closer than we've guessed. The only thing that I've realized with Detox, compared to other projects, is that it's either 100% done or it's 0% done.

I have 100% confidence Snoop and Dre are down for Coachella in April but very little confidence it means anything more than the routine Dre/Snoop nostalgia set most people are expecting and attending for. There may be a new Detox joint but like we've debated, if it was a prelude to the big Detox announcement, why would it be a strictly Snoop/Dre set? Hella rappers and people are going around doing shows of their entire first albums and The Chronic and Doggystyle are classics. Hope for something but don't get disappointed when there's no big Detox joint or announcement made.

2011 was the year of no rumors or anything. The entire "4/20 Detox is comin" shit was ignoring Dre's own reps who said there is zero planned for April 20th. 2011 was the year Dre was in the studio, working, and NOTHING was coming out of it, remember? That's why I said it's 2012 or nothing, I'm hopping ship and moving on, because if all this builds up to nothing in 2012 then it ain't ever going to build up to the point he can put it out. Storch just got arrested in Vegas again for coke but that's probably why Dre's been whipping Khalil to do beats instead the past few years...

  22. shit like this does make me say 50 Cent and Bishop Lamont were the only real peeps on Aftermath. Dre doesn't know anything about loyalty...50 cENT SHOULD BLAST DRE ON THAT MOVE. NEXT DRE GONNA WORK WITH JA RULE????

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rick Ross's rap career should have ended when 50 Cent took Ross's baby's mother shopping lol. I'm hoping to hear Dre's best proteges on Detox like Eminem, Snoop, and 50 Cent as well as other rap game heavy hitters like Jay-Z and Nas. I think Dre could be doing features on lots of different peoples albums like Ross just to tap in to different fan bases and build the hype even more because Detox is coming this year.

  24. Dre working with Ross is funny its going to piss 50 off witch is a good thing because i don't won't him on detox. To much time has been wasted with him and he has no chemistry with Dre. Game is a far better fit for detox and if Dre can get a bit of promotion from southern rappers fuck it. Like plugin said it only going to be one verse if Ross even makes the album imo Wayne is more likely.

    1. the game the same game that can't even write his own hook and was about to get dropped from dre n needed help from 50 cent lol. Rick Ross yh he can rap but he is fake real fake but it's funny how slim the mobster was in the back smiling n stuff. Dre hating on 50 cent cuz 50 makes power moves

    2. The game the same game that had to leave aftermath dropped a much hotter album by himself and absolutely murdered 50cent on his mixtapes? Yeah that game.

    3. the first and second albums are dope 3rd and forth were average. Game is bipolar says one thing and does another. Interscope hates 50 Cent for one reason...he's not another rapper he's a businessman AND TRUST ME Game won the battle but 50 won the war. And I like Game but lately he's been kinna wack
