My opinion on Dre's 'Under Pressure'- well sort of.

To be honest i haven't listened to this track yet, still sitting on my desktop. The reason aint because others say its shit. I would have my own opinion about the track's beat solely. The reason for not listening to it yet is that i know it wont be on detox and also it's very rough, not finished or mixed etc.

If Dre's music is changing then its a good thing. People need to think more broader and expect changes. I know that its a sudden shock when an artist changes the style etc. But its not that big of a shock.

I still find it amazing that some music fans don't know quality when it's front of them. What i mean is that the tracks below (only 2 for starters) just fly over some folks heads and they don't notice the quality of these tracks. Maybe because they are too different to them?

Uzee's thoughts on the 'Under pressure' track

I will post my thoughts on the track.  I will only focus on the beat and not the lyrics.

In my opinion when an early skeleton beat is made artists 'test' the beat by combining it with their rapping flow, at this early stage it doesn't matter what the lyrics are - just the flow.

My views - coming soon.

New Dr Dre official website??

Thats right, the website named www.drdre.com is open.  It only contains one page where his statement regarding the leak of 'under pressure' is displayed.  Non the less this is a step forward in my opinion.  With this website open maybe Detox will be released this year.

Crooked I - 'Under Pressure' freestyle

Artist Crooked I had freestyled over the Under Pressure' beat.  Useful for those who wanna listen to Crooked I, or for those who wanna focus more on the 'under pressure' beat.

Dre Says Leaked 'Under Pressure' Was 'An Incomplete Song'

Not this way, says Dr. Dre. He doesn't want people to hear any of his music before it is done. On Wednesday, an incomplete version of the much-hyped Dre and Jay-Z duet "Under Pressure" leaked to the Internet, and the Doc responded on Thursday (June 17) on the Interscope website.

Simply titled "Message from Dre," the statement reads: "I want to set the record straight for everybody who's been waiting to hear my music. The song that's out on the Internet is an incomplete song that I'm still working on. When it's ready, you'll be hearing it from me."

"Under Pressure" is a song from Dre's much-hyped Detox album. Neither the song nor the LP has a release date. In the meantime, Interscope and Dre are focused on releasing the potentially blockbuster project from Eminem, Recovery, which lands officially on Monday (June 22).

The bootleg of "Under Pressure" has no chorus, at least not the version that was leaked. Keep in mind, Dre has been known to do a few different versions of his songs before he feels they are ready for public consumption. The leaked version featured the Compton icon batting leadoff.

"The long-awaited Detox, bitch," Dre said to commence the song. "But maybe I don't wanna stop/ Maybe I don't wanna quit/ Maybe I like ho's/ Maybe I don't want a wife/ Maybe I'm psycho/ ... Maybe we need to breathe some life in this sh--/ Maybe we are the life of this sh--."

After a space with no vocals, where the chorus would presumably go, Jay-Z arrives on the song.

"Dre, I think I need my sponsor," he says.

"Trying to grow, but I just can't seem ta/ Having trouble cleaning up, I'm like FEMA/ All these little haters got me back with the nina/ Got me bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas," the Jiggaman adds later in his bars. "I'm in this party/ I'm up to no good/ And I should be ducking these clubs, Tiger Woods."

Besides Jay-Z, the collaborators that Dre has had in the lab with him for Detox have been pretty impressive — as expected. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, the Game, Nas, R. Kelly, Scott Storch, T.I., Nas, 50 Cent and Eminem have all recorded with Dre over the past few years for the album.

Unfinshed old version of “Under Pressure” leaked?

“Under Pressure” got leaked today, but it is an unfinished and old version. The track has not a hook in it, is unmixed and unmastered. Rumours are spreading that 'Under Pressure' will not be listed on the Detox album. More information and an official statement is coming soon.

Please do not complain that it aint as hot track or didn't meet your expectations.  It is an unfinished track with many gaps etc.

Whatever it sounds like, i am for will be happy if Dre takes a new direction musically - maybe towards techno.

Producer Focus talks about Detox

Dubcnn interviewd one of Dre's proteges, this time producer named Focus.  Below is an extract where he talks about Dre and Detox. Click the link at the bottom for the full interview, in which Focus talks about why he left Aftermath and his projects.

Dubcnn: The reason behind that last question, is that you worked side-by-side with Dr. Dre for several years while he's been fine-tuning Detox. How much, if any, of the "idea" for Detox to be a totally different sounding project came into play with the Avant Garde?

'Avant Garde' came outta the blue and when I was working on Detox, I solely focused (no pun) on Detox. I did my 'Dedicated' cd when I was in Detox mode. Dre's 'different' and my 'different' are two different things. He is still going to keep the essence of what made him DRE, you know. I'm still new to many so I can experiment and really go different places with my music.

Dubcnn: Speaking of Dr. Dre, you recently left the Aftermath camp. Why?

It was just time. Dre has given me guidance and a doorway into the industry, I am trying to show him and my listeners that it wasn't in vain. I've been with Dre for over 7 years and I was getting frustrated with my music just sitting around. I wanted to be on the various Aftermath projects, but we were so 'Detox' driven that nothing I was doing was coming out and really couldn't be shopped too many places because I tailored it to Dre. Me and Dre spoke and I told him anytime you need me, I'm there but I gotta do this. He was cool about it and we still holla' now about me being on 'Detox' so hopefully you'll hear me on it.

Dubcnn: What is your relationship like with Dr. Dre now?

That's still my mentor. We still good. I didn't leave kickin' up dust and cursin' cats out. Just showing Dre that I'm a soldier in and out of the ‘Math.

Dubcnn: We've heard the rumor of Detox for nearly a decade or more, and just recently there was a rumor swirling (fueled by Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine) about a Detox single called "Under Pressure". Is Dr. Dre toying with us about his supposed final album?

Dre is strategic. When the time is right and the music is 'perfect', it'll drop! This isn't a game to him so he doesn't want to regurgitate the leaks with the same rhymes and beats. He'll sooner revamp the entire lp before running with old material. Dre is a perfectionist. Can't rush perfection.

Dubcnn: How many tracks have you worked on for the Detox project?

I've submitted well over 500 tracks to Dre for Detox while I was signed to the Math. Could be more, but I know that I was constantly working on it and submitting every track as a Detox hopeful.

Dubcnn: One of my personal favorite songs you produced was "Where I'm From" for Game's The Documentary. Why wasn't Dre's verse on the album version?

Good question. Again, Dre is a perfectionist. If he didn't like the cadence of his voice or one line, anything, he probably heard what we couldn't hear. I was dumb excited when I heard Dre spit on the song. Would've been a great look for the lp.

New snippet?

This is a new snippet, i wouldn't link it to detox. I think its just a fake beat made by somebody else.

I highly doubt this is for detox, this is just a beat mixed with with voices of 50, Em and Dre from previous existing tracks.

More info will follow.

Diddy credits Jay-Z, Dre and Eminem with helping to bring hip-hop back.

From Diddy's perspective, hip-hop is in a great space with the help of big, influential rap stars.

"Hip-Hop came back with a vengeance," Diddy said in an interview. "You have incredible artists who have come back strong, Jay-Z, new artists like Lil Wayne and Drake, Kanye, artists like Eminem and myself who are still doing what we do. And Dr. Dre's about to come back, it's just a great time overall for hip-hop, it's a lot of big stars that are out there, a lot of huge, huge names that are pushing the envelope. To me, it was important for me to push the envelope, you know, I'm my biggest competition and I think the artists I named are more as an inspiration to me than competition." (BBC News)

Game Skipped A Pre-Jail Video With Lil Wayne To Record With Dre

If he would have just gotten on a plane from L.A. to Miami, the Game could have added to Lil Wayne's pre-prison video-shoot marathon. The Compton MC said one of the standout cuts from his Red Room mixtape, "Everything Red," was supposed to be a single from The R.E.D. Album, but he didn't shoot a visual.

"I flaked on the video," Game said of the track, which features Lil Wayne and Birdman. "Bird was like, 'Listen, daddy, you can come down here. Junior is gonna turn himself in next Wednesday. You can come down here. We can shoot the video before Junior go in. You just have that in the safe.' I blew it. I didn't make it down. Once he went [to jail], I was like, 'I can't use this.' I didn't want to save it, so I gave it away. That was like, 'Single!' "
So what was so important that he couldn't make it to Miami for his own video? He was finishing up tracks with the most successful hip-hop producer in the world.

"I think I was in with Dr. Dre. I couldn't move," he thought back. "I think we was finishing up his records. When Dre is mixing, you don't leave. You gotta stay posted. But I couldn't move. So I gave it away. Fans appreciate it, though."

One of the Dre-produced records that will appear on his album is called "Dead People." On the track, Game thinks of who he wants to murder and how he's going to get away with it. The R.E.D. Album has been pushed back to later this summer, but the MC promised another mixtape before then.

Dre To Be Honored By ASCAP

Hip-hop pioneer Dr. Dre will be presented with the ASCAP Founders Award during the organization's 23rd annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. The ceremony-which will also honor the songwriters and publishers of 2009's most performed ASCAP songs on the R&B/hip-hop, rap and gospel charts - will take place June 25 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The ASCAP Founders Awards is given to songwriters and composers whose musical legacies have inspired and influenced fellow music creators. Dr. Dre, a founding member with Eazy-E and Ice Cube of the seminal rap group N.W.A., is also a Grammy Award-winning producer of the year, songwriter and label chief who has directed such hits as BlackStreet's "No Diggity," Mary J. Blige's "Family Affair" and 2Pac ("California Love"). In addition to helping launch the careers of Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent, Dr. Dre is a hit-making artist in his own right, including "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" from his pivotal 1992 solo debut "The Chronic." Dr. Dre joins such previous Founders honorees as Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Paul McCartney, Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson.

"Dre is one of the most important voices in modern music," said ASCAP president/chairman Paul Williams in a statement. "He created a unique, recognizable sound that dominated rap music in the early '90s...and continues to inspire artists and producers across all genres with his musical techniques."

Vibe Crowns Dr. Dre ‘Greatest Producer of All-Time,’ Dre Accepts Honor

After weeks of a bracket-style producer match-up, Vibe.com officially announced that Dr. Dre won their "Greatest Producer of All-Time" contest, after going head-to-head with DJ Premier in the final round and garnering 62% of the fans' votes.

According to Vibe.com, there were a total of 189,425 votes in the six rounds, which they launched back in early April, which included a number of great producers in several categories, including Scott Storch, the Neptunes, Lil Jon, Kanye West, the Alchemist, DJ Muggs and Havoc of Mobb Deep, among others.
As expected Dre was the winner.

During his run in the contest, Dre beat out Atlanta producer DJ Toomp in the first round, fellow West Coaster DJ Quik in the second and De La Soul's Prince Paul in the third. Then, the Compton vet edged out Bomb Squad in the Elite 8 round to go up against Kanye West in the final four, where a 68% advantage earned him a spot in the finals.

The Final Four were Dr. Dre Vs. Kanye West, and DJ Premier Vs. The Neptunes. Obviously, Dre took on Premier as mentioned and won.

The contest reached Dre himself, who humbly accepted the honor.

"I just found out that I got voted VIBE's best producer of all time. That shit is incredible," Dre told VIBE. "I'm a humble person and I would've never expected that, seriously. I just go in the studio. I try to do my thing to the best of my ability."

Now that Dre is crowned "Greatest Producer of All-Time," Vibe wants to know which era was his finest. You can vote among his NWA, Death Row, early Aftermath and modern day eras at Vibe.com.
