'Beat's hit with lawsuit by by rival Signeo

Super producer Dr. Dre's company Beats Electronics LLC has been hit with a lawsuit by Signeo USA, a rival producer of headphones and high end audio products.

The lawsuit, which was filed on June 2nd in The United States District Court for the Northern District of California, also names Monster Cable as a defendant.

Signeo is being represented by Lan Kennedy-Davis of Davis and Kennedy in Lakewood Florida, who did not return calls about the lawsuit.

While Beats Electronics is known for Dr. Dre's popular headphone line Beats by Dre, Signeo USA is known for marketing Ludacris' brand of headphones, Soul.

Beats Electronics was founded by Dr. Dre and Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine in 2006.

Chronic sales lawsuit

Dr. Dre won't be behind the microphone at a federal courthouse after all - the rapper settled a lawsuit over damages from unauthorized online sales of his album "The Chronic" a day before trial.

Attorneys for the rap superstar, whose real name is Andre Young, filed a notice of settlement in a Los Angeles federal court late Monday afternoon. He had been expected to testify during the weeklong trial, which would have decided whether Young was entitled to 100 percent of the profits from online sales of the rap album, which also helped launch the career of Snoop Dogg.

No details of the settlement, which is not yet finalized, were filed with the court.

In April a judge ruled that WIDEawake Death Row Records didn't have the proper permission to sell Young's music online or repackage it on new CD releases. The label purchased the holdings of original Death Row Records, which launched the careers of several rappers, out of bankruptcy.

He sued WIDEawake Death Row in 2010 for breach of contract, trademark infringement and misappropriation of his likeness.

Young was a co-founder of the label, but negotiated a deal to leave the company that required Death Row to obtain his permission before selling his music digitally. On Monday, "The Chronic" was no longer available for download on Apple's popular music service iTunes.

There was no immediate comment from attorneys for either Young or WIDEawake Death Row.

Detox July 26th????

Though release dates have been given before, another rumored date purports that the album will drop in the summer.

Dr. Dre has delayed his third and final solo album Detox for the past decade, giving several release dates during that time. Another alleged release date has hit the Internet, suggesting that the West Coast veteran will drop his swan song on July 26th.

According to HHNM, HMV has made the album available for pre-order in the U.K. on July 25th. The date, which falls on a Monday, would suggest that the LP would release in the States the following day, as albums release in the U.K. a day earlier.

DJ Khalil - Dre In 'Final Stretch' of 'Detox' Work

While DJ Khalil has recently contributed to new projects by Drake, John Legend, Eminem and Game, the producer tells Billboard.com that his top priority these days is helping Dr. Dre finish his endlessly delayed third album, "Detox."

"Dre's album is definitely the most important thing right now, because he is definitely in the final stretch," says DJ Khalil (real name: Khalil Abdul-Rahman), who produced "Detox's" first single, "Kush," along with Dr. Dre. "He has the record going, but I'm sure he thinks there are pieces missing still. Until he finds those pieces, maybe he's not comfortable putting it out yet."

Khalil, who has been working with Dr. Dre on "Detox" for over six years, can't predict exactly what the long-awaited album will sound like. "It's definitely a West Coast sound -- more futuristic West Coast sound -- at least from what I've turned in," he says. "I don't know what he's keeping, though."

Khalil says that his "Detox" work has kept him from focusing on Drake's sophomore album, "Take Care," but the producer -- who previously collaborated with the Canadian rapper on the "So Far Gone" track "Fear" -- professes that he has "a ton of ideas" for his second full-length. "I talked to him and just told him I'm working on stuff for him," he says. "I'm sure they are more than halfway done. I'm pretty sure he's getting close and I definitely want to be a part of it."

Game kills his dad on a Dre beat + Dre to rap on R.E.D. album

The Compton rapper also taps Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, Drake, Chris Brown and more for the August release.

Game has revealed the guest features for his oft-delayed R.E.D. Album, dropping August 23rd. Speaking with VIBE.com, the Compton, California native revealed that guests on the album will be Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Tyler, The Creator, Wiz Khalifa, Trey Songz, Drake and Chris Brown.

"I think the people will appreciate the collaborations. Dr. Dre is actually rapping on this album," he said. "This is the first album that I’ve ever dropped where I have Dr. Dre’s voice actually on the album. Features range from Snoop Dogg to Pharrell to Wiz to Trey Songz to Chris Brown, and Drake’s on the album. I got a good cast of all-stars."

He also has a duet with Odd Future front man Tyler, The Creator on a track called "Martians vs. Goblins." "Oh yeah, Tyler [The Creator] is on the album. I forgot about him. He ain’t really doing features for nobody. He feels like fuck everything and I don’t blame him either," he explained. "It’s a California thing, and I got respect for him and his hustle and what they’re doing and just being kids and being rebels for the cause. And he respects me for doing what I did for California and the West Coast, I guess. I met him at a Diddy concert and we chopped it up and we got a song called ‘Martians vs Goblins.’ It’s dope.”

The former G-Unit affiliate spoke on a tune where he puts his father on blast over a Dr. Dre beat. "There’s a song where I kill my dad on a Dre beat. You won’t be able to understand it until you hear it. It’s sort of like a dream, but I wish it would’ve came true when I was a kid, so I kind of lived it out. It’s over this eerie Dr. Dre and it’s hard as shit. When you hear it you’ll be like ‘Damn this is crazy.’"

Kendrick saving first Dre collaboration for Detox

Any rapper who says that they don't want a beat from Dr. Dre either has to be lying or crazy, right? Well, New West Coast representative Kendrick Lamar is neither. Though he is currently working on his upcoming indie album, Section 80, Lamar has also been contributing to Dre's long-awaited Detox LP. Now, K.Dot has confirmed to MTV News that Dre has been overseeing Section 80, although the rap icon hasn't contributed any beats to it.

"I didn't want no work yet. That's the crazy part — I didn't. I wanted to go full just me — me and my team. I wanted to save that [Dre collaboration] for something bigger," Lamar explained before revealing his vision. "Bigger would be Detox. My first, me and Dre, I want them to hear it on Detox."

It's no secret that the Good Doctor has taken a liking to Lamar: He's endorsed the young rapper in radio interviews, appeared at his shows and posed for pictures with the Compton upstart. As of yet, though, Kendrick and Dre have had no formal business dealings — just a good personal relationship.

"As far as the music, we got a chemistry that's unmatched to me. Alongside with the music, we just talk about stuff, just talk about life in general," Lamar told MTV News. "I think that's why we clash together so perfect, because he sees a good kid in a bad city the same way he grew up. So we can talk about certain situations that he never talked about. I think right there alone, it's a blessing to me — for a personal relationship with him, not just the music."

Still, with all the music making and personal bonding, surely the notion of Kendrick signing to Dre's Interscope-distributed Aftermath label has had to come up. Lamar wouldn't go into detail — instead, he just smirked and remarked, "It's been in the air."

K.Dot, who is signed to West Coast independent label Top Dawg Entertainment, may not know which major he will be calling home or if he will even sign to one, but he is pretty confident about one thing — he will have a guest spot on Dre's Detox, whenever it may come out. And, whereas powerhouse artists like 50 Cent have admitted to recording for the album but couldn't say for certain whether they'd make the final track list, young Kendrick has no doubt. "Nah, I'm confirmed a few times," he said.
